This Keto Sunflower Butter & Cocoa Smoothie is a delightful departure from bacon and eggs for your morning breakfast – especially if you’re doing the Squeaky Clean Keto Challenge with us this month! SCKC, Paleo, and dairy free, it’s also sweetener free and Whole 30 friendly!
I love bacon, eggs, and avocado for breakfast while on keto, but I occasionally break it up with some Keto Cream Cheese Pancakes or Cinnamon Faux-st Crunch Cereal to keep things fresh. Unfortunately, since dairy and sweeteners are a no-no on the Squeaky Clean Keto Challenge, it can get tedious to eat a breakfast of mostly eggs all month.
So I created this keto sunflower butter & cocoa smoothie recipe (and the recently posted SCKC Strawberry Vanilla Smoothie) to break up your SCKC breakfast monotony! While it doesn’t contain dairy or sweeteners, it has a slight sweetness from the coconut milk and Sunflower butter that is juuuust enough to make you feel like you’re drinking something sweet and chocolatey!
Of course, if you aren’t on the SCKC or the Whole 30, then you can make this Keto Sunflower Butter & Cocoa Smoothie with almond milk and a keto friendly sweetener to it to make it even better!
I promise, that once you’ve cut all sweeteners from your diet though, even as is, this smoothie will taste so amazing that you won’t believe how delicious dairy and sweetener free living can be! ?
As is the case with all keto chocolate recipes – use the best quality cocoa powder you can get for the best results. The cheap canned stuff in the grocery store will do the job, but can sometimes be bitter or old – which means your Keto Sunflower Butter & Cocoa Smoothie (or anything else you make with it) will also taste bitter or just off. This isn’t so apparent when you’re masking it with lots of sweetener, but when you aren’t sweetening your recipes, the flavor of the cocoa will stand out even more.
Some of my favorite premium brands of cocoa powder are Saco, Ghirardelli, Valrhona, and Guittard, which can all be purchased on Amazon at very reasonable prices.
